Restorative Dentistry

Restorative dentistry aims to strengthen, maintain and restore the general functioning of the mouth, teeth, jaw and gums. Restorative dental procedures can also fix structural problems to the teeth, such as, chipped or missing teeth to achieve optimum oral health and functioning. It can help with the repair of broken, infected, or damaged teeth, gums, and tissue. For restorative dental treatments, dentists use devices such as dentures, crowns, bridges, onlays, inlays and dental implants to improve and restore the proper functioning of the teeth.

What do we offer?
A Dental Bridge: This device is natural looking and can be used to replace one or more missing teeth. It is fixed onto and held together by the neighbouring teeth on either side of the missing one.

A Dental Crown: If your tooth is severely damaged, decayed, chipped or cracked, dental crowns can be used to cover and protect the tooth from further harm. It can also strengthen the tooth and reinforce the jaw.

A Dental Implant: A Dental implant is another option to consider when choosing replacements for your missing tooth or teeth. Dental implants are permanently embedded into the jaw bone and do not require other teeth to support them.

Dentures: Dentures, also known as, ‘false teeth’ are removable dental devices that are used to replace teeth that are missing. The two most common types of dentures are full dentures and partial dentures.

Full Dentures: If all teeth are missing on both the upper and lower jaws of the mouth then full dentures can be used to replace them.

Partial Dentures: These dentures are suitable for patients who have gaps because of one or more missing teeth. Partial dentures are placed into the gaps of the missing teeth to help prevent existing teeth from moving into those gaps.

We offer a range of preventive treatments to help the whole family maintain optimal oral health.

Children start developing their first set of teeth between the ages of four to twelve months. At Aperture Dental Practice, we recommend and advise that children should start visiting the dentist as soon as their first tooth erupts.

It is important for parents should ensure that children visit the dentist at least every six to twelve months for the general examining of the teeth, a dental check-up and clean.

This will allow the dentist to monitor the growth and condition of the child’s teeth as they get older, and detect any problems associated with dental care and oral hygiene. This can also help the dentist determine the best way to treat the condition at an early stage before it can become worse.

The sooner the child starts learning about the importance of taking care of their teeth the better chance they have of maintaining a healthy set of teeth for a lifetime.

We take care of dental emergencies

At Aperture Dental we set time aside every day for emergency dental appointments.

The difference between a  dental emergency and a dental problem is that an emergency is usually painful. Whereas a problem is cosmetic. That is, a chip or crack that doesn’t hurt isn’t an emergency—but you should book an appointment. A chip or crack that causes pain is an emergency and you should contact Aperture Dental as soon as possible.

Invisalign is one of many other orthodontic options that can be considered to straighten teeth that are misaligned or crooked.

The treatment for Invisalign is made up of removable clear aligners which are almost invisible. These aligners are custom made according to your teeth and are designed to help shift and move the teeth into the intended position. The aligners will need to be replaced every two weeks as the teeth move towards the desired position for optimum results.

The Invisalign treatment can take approximately 9 to 15 months to complete, depending on each straightening issue and how severely the teeth are misaligned or crooked.

Invisalign can be used to treat the following aligning issues:

  • When you have overcrowded teeth and there is no more space for all of your teeth to fit properly.
  • When you have widely spaced teeth or big gaps between your teeth.
  • When both your upper jaw and lower jaw are misaligned. These are referred to as cross bites.
  • When you have a deep bite. This happens when the upper teeth overlap with the lower teeth.
  • When you have an under bite. An under bite is described as the lower teeth of the lower jaw juts out in front of the front teeth of the upper jaw.

Some of the advantages of the Invisalign treatment are that the aligners are clear and hardly noticeable. They are comfortable and can be easily removed when you are brushing your teeth or eating. It is easy to keep them clean and is very hygienic. There is hardly any pain experienced when wearing the aligners.

Some of the disadvantages of the Invisalign treatment are that they are very expensive and if they are lost, they will be too expensive to replace. They may not be able to treat dental problems that are major.

Rather than resting on the gum line like removable dentures, or using adjacent teeth as anchors like fixed bridges, dental implants are a long-term replacement for missing teeth. They look, feel and function most like a natural tooth, mostly because they are fixed in place. Dental implants, if properly maintained, can last a lifetime.

Dental implants are metal anchors that are surgically placed into the jawbone. Small posts are attached to the implant and provide stable anchors for the replacement crown.

In the case of dental implants, the positive tend to outweigh the negative. No healthy teeth are damaged as part of implant treatment. Not only is the gap left by the missing tooth filled, so is the root. The implant integrates with the jawbone and the implant and crown perfectly mimic the function of a natural tooth. One disadvantage is the length of the treatment. Often, the implant is placed and there is a waiting period of 1-3 months before applying the crown, so that the implant can fuse with the bone. Another drawback cited is cost. However, a dental implant is a onetime cost and it preserves the other healthy teeth, gum and bone in your mouth. The other options may need to be replaced once or twice in a lifetime and can cause further damage.  In the end, the other options may wind up to be costly.

At Aperture Dental we are happy to explain each procedure until you thoroughly understand the basic nature of it.
